Zoë Salinas World Champion

I don’t know how. I am not sure it will ever happen again… but for now, Zoë is the 2018 FCG Callaway World Champion in the 8-under girls division.

2018 FCG Callaway World Championship 8-U Girls

In the Rancho Mirage summer heat, Zoë went wire-to-wire to win.  She started off shooting 3-under on the day one.  It’s good to have some strokes in the bank, as she shot +4 on day two with some unnecessary risky play.  Our final round goal was just to be calm and rely on her experience in competitive situations.  We managed stroke-by-stroke to an even par final round to win the world championship by 7 strokes!

Zoë was so happy to play with her old and new friends from Canada, China, Colombia, Japan, Mexico, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan,  and Thailand.

Here is a link to the final scoreboard.

Next Step: Try other sports

Eat, sleep, golf,,, repeat. Since, all we could control is our preparation that’s where we applied ourselves 5+ days per week.  Zoë was fortunate in that preparation allowed her to win SDJGA POY, FCG Las Vegas, FCG International, and now the FCG World Championship.

Perhaps, I shouldn’t mess with a working formula, but I feel this much golf practice is not a recipe for long-term success.  My plan is to have Zoë start playing competitive tennis.  She also wants to try gymnastics (after 5 years of suffering through WuShu).  I am hopeful that instruction in these other sports will translate into better athleticism and avoid a potential burnout in golf.

You don’t know what pressure is until you play for 5 bucks with only two bucks in your pocket.

We must stay focused on our preparation!
